Israel's currency is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS or ILS). As of 2025, 1 USD ≈ 3.6 NIS. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere — even street vendors in Jerusalem's Old City often take Visa and Mastercard. Still, carry some cash for small purchases, tips, and the occasional market stall.
ATMs: Available at the airport, in every city, and at most hotels. Your bank may charge a foreign transaction fee (1–3%), so check before you go. Withdraw shekels, not dollars.
Tipping guidelines: Guide — $8–10 per person per day. Driver — $5–7 per person per day. Hotel staff — 20 NIS per bag for porter, 20 NIS per day for housekeeping. Restaurant — 12–15% if service charge isn't included (check the bill). Tips are typically collected as a group on the last day and distributed by the organizer.
