The Holy Land is intensely photogenic, but sacred sites require sensitivity. Flash photography is prohibited in most churches and at the Western Wall. At the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, put your camera away for a moment and just be present — you can photograph later.

Best light: Sunrise at Masada and the Mount of Olives. Golden hour on the Sea of Galilee. The Old City from the Haas Promenade at sunset. The Treasury at Petra before 9 AM when the sun hits the facade at a low angle and the colors glow.

Gear: A smartphone with a good camera is honestly sufficient for most travelers. If you bring a dedicated camera, a 24–70mm zoom covers 90% of situations. A wide-angle (16–35mm) is essential for interiors. Leave the tripod at home — they're banned at most sites and slow down the group.

Pro tip: Include people in your photos. A picture of the Sea of Galilee is nice; a picture of your pastor reading Scripture on its shore is a treasure.
